Dental students develop oral health education program Sylvette Ramos-Diaz and Arlet Montes Sanchez, students at the University of North Carolina Adams School of Dentistry, founded the Hispanic Oral health Prevention and Education, or HOPE, program to educate and empower patients at the Vidas de Esperanza, a medical and dental clinic in Siler City, to take charge of their oral health, the Chatham News+Record reports. “We’re trying to reshape the way that they see dentistry and how they can actively work towards keeping their teeth,” said Ms. Ramos-Diaz. The students were awarded a North Carolina Albert Schweitzer Fellowship in March for the HOPE project, and the Hispanic Student Dental Association, which oversees the dental clinic at Vidas, has contributed to the initiative.
